John Muir Cabin was built in 1980 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of John Muir's visit to the Gastineau Channel area. This 15' x 12' chalet-style log cabin sits in a subalpine meadow 1,550 feet above the Mendenhall Valley, offering spectacular panoramic views of Juneau, Gastineau Channel, and the Chilkat Mountains. The cabin is accessed via a 3.5-mile hike, ski, or snowshoe trek on the Auk Nu Trail, which winds through muskeg and mature forest.
