Established in 1891 as the first national forest in the United States, Shoshone National Forest encompasses 2.4 million acres in northwestern Wyoming. It offers a diverse range of recreation opportunities, including over 1,300 miles of trails and more than 30 developed campgrounds. As an integral part of the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem, the forest provides a habitat for diverse wildlife such as grizzly bears, elk, and bighorn sheep across landscapes ranging from sagebrush flats to rugged mountain peaks.
